A Poem And A Message Of Hope
By Niki Behrikis Shanahan
September 28, 2007

The holiday season is fast approaching, and I wanted to write you a little message of hope.  Holidays are generally happy times, but for many who have lost loved ones, it can be a very difficult time.  Many people suffer from depression and loneliness during the festive season.

I know that so many of you have lost your beloved animal companions, and you miss them very much.  We lost our own cat, Pete, in 2001 just before Christmas.  It was December 15, 2001 that Pete went to Heaven.  I think about Pete everyday, and I know that you think about your precious pet, too.

I hope that it will encourage you to remember that your pet is healthy, safe, and very happy in Heaven today.  They wait anxiously for the moment that we will join them.

My loss of Pete is what inspired me to write two pet loss books, There Is Eternal Life For Animals and The Rainbow Bridge: Pet Loss Is Heaven's Gain.  You may have read these books, but sometimes feel sad and depressed.  Many people have told me that reading these books a second and third time bring them renewed comfort.

My thoughts are with you everyday, and I pray that the Lord will comfort you.  I thought it might be helpful if I gave you the link to my pet loss articles: http://eternalanimals.com/articles.htm

This is a poem I wrote for The Rainbow Bridge: Pet Loss Is Heaven's Gain.  I hope you will be encouraged by it.

Fluffy’s In Heaven

I’m sad every day, I cry and I mourn;
Little Fluffy, my love, it seems he’s gone home;
I can’t see this place that’s waiting for me;
The scene that’s in Heaven, enchanting, you see;
Angels flying above, and the trumpets they sound;
Beautiful gardens, flowers, and paths all around;
Clearest rivers and lakes, and the streets made of gold;
The lion and lamb are asleep, while the birds sing and tweet;
People laugh and talk as they stroll in the breeze;
Grandpa golfs on the lawn, children play on the swings.

 Fluffy and friends tour the mansion for me;
They race through my house, up the stairs joyfully;
Sliding down the banister, right on their rears;
Taking corners so fast they can fly through the air;
In the kitchen they slide across a bright shiny floor;
Eating snacks they do feast by the patio door;
So happy, no troubles, no tears anymore;
Everything so perfect, but just one thing more;
When reunited in Heaven, we’ll live happily evermore!

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.
